In the Pre-engineering phase the tasks were defined. Planning is now carried out in the basic engineering and detail engineering project phases.
Based on pre-planning during the pre-engineering phase, all details for the design of the plant are now specified, calculated, selected, constructed, drawn, described and documented in all details in the basic engineering and detail engineering phases.
The scope of services and tasks depend on the respective project. Depending on the project, this allows new technologies to be integrated into existing plants, existing plants modernized or completely new plants built. This involves the coordination of all involved trades, such as plant engineering, process engineering or electrical engineering.
In the basic engineering phase, the technical concept is first developed and the technical scope is defined. In addition, an investment cost estimate is used to calculate the expected costs. The aim of the basic engineering phase is to flesh out the project and create a planning draft of the plant.
As a rule, a basic assessment is carried out, in which all requirements of the project are defined. A process description and process flow charts are created and, if necessary, a location survey is carried out. The scope of services is also determined.
In the subsequent planning, the basics are coordinated with the customer and the planning concepts are recorded as a draft in a 3D model using AutoCAD Plant 3D.
Finally, all requirements for construction planning are compiled, the project plan is drawn up and the investment costs are estimated.
In the detail engineering phase, all further details are worked out and the planning packages of the participating departments are fully detailed. This also completes the 3D planning model. The result of the detail engineering phase is therefore the specification of plant components, materials, and measurement and control components.
Many resulting documents have interdependencies. For example, pipeline isometries can only be finalized once the associated pipeline plans are available. Requirements for certain documents can therefore change during the process and the corresponding documents are continuously maintained during the detail engineering phase.
The detail engineering phase is completed with a complete description of the interfaces to the outside world or to other areas of the plant.
Depending on the type of project and the industry, the engineering phases include the following work:
As part of basic engineering, the basis of pre-engineering for the construction planning of a plant is detailed in a further phase.
In close cooperation with the customer, a 3D model is developed to fully comprehend the planning. In addition, the necessary details for detailed engineering are developed. This phase therefore represents an important step towards creating the basis for the subsequent construction of the process plant.
Careful coordination of the basic principles is essential to prevent subsequent errors or deviations. This process is carried out by experienced engineers who work together with the customer to achieve a successful implementation.
Precise project planning provides a structured and well-organized basis and maximizes the probability of successful plant construction.
